Rosetta Stone would not load. come back and use Carol's machine perhaps.
I hunch my giver side will need this sort of input to accelerate that aspect. This overview helps here as well, ie the layout of the tools etc.
Carol teaching English for Academic purposes has resulted in some interesting conversations and explorations on he net for tools and word lists. Amazing resources in this area now. This is especially true for "profiling " software which analyzes text on inputs for a number of factors. There are a number of lists of English words and their family clusters as well as usage frequency.
Federal money for advanced courses in Canada is being shifted around once again leaving some students in the lurch. It seems to me that teaching language acquisition methods would alleviate some to the pressure on formal structures...speaking as one who tends to like self learning as part of my diet.
(April 1/2017) I got the student text for the Foreign Service Language Instruction in Spanish and read the opening chapter. That was where I learned about Stress/syllable/mona based timing of languages, which opened up a whole new world of language learning - check it out.
(Oct 12/17) I got Rosetta Stone up and working but after a lengthy time on the First level, I discovered it was much bigger than I had thought initially.
I was on the end of the third lesson of the first unit (of four) or the first level (of five). This was not going to work for me as an overview map
like we get in the mall "you are here" sort of thing. So I started casting about for something else once more. Rosetta stone is good for acquiring a language
without the "translation" problem, but it was taking me too much time to get it to what I needed it for.I ended up with "Synergy Spanish" which is not as comprehensive, but I could see where I was at quite clearly, and it had several layers of development.
It also had a live teacher on the other end who was pretty involved in guiding his students through, and had been down my road as well...getting into speaking.I put the material from the new program in the place of the old Rosetta stone at the front of my "control" binder...with the other sections holding material which
supported the main overview, sort of like a big retail outlet "anchors" the little specialty shops in a mall...and those can be cycled in and out of my larger pool
of resources and needs change. For example right now there are still a lot of articles on suggestions of how to go about learning a language, and how to put a
good package together...but they will become less valuable to me over time, as new needs arise, and they will cycle back into the feeder pool of resources.I find having a control binder keeps things in order and less overwhelming, as there is simply so much good resource on the net, and in the community.
I did find that Rosetta Stone might be good for a tool to uptake multiple languages at one time as they are all built on an identical platform, thereby picking up on

Bodmer's suggestion of learning multiple languages from a family at once. But that is for another time.
