Paper-Trail For Spanish Language Learning Project - Relating To "Tracking My Progress "
Paper-trail -
Initial Start Date - (17 /Nov/ 2016) - I decided to go with Bernie Lewis' time frame using the European system as a basis. He says in his blog post on his site, that it takes 400-600 hours of work to get to B2, where there is a wall which many hit. This can be done in 90 days if one takes he proper approach and has functional goals. That is, to be able to chat comfortably with neither party staining. Works for me. With some extra time to hammer out a system, this should be pretty good as an approach.
I'm also going to check out European Language portfolio sites for ideas re what I'm doing with this site as an approach to much the same thing as those portfolios.
Thanks Lord for this!
(18 /Nov/ 2016) - I went through the Canadian benchmarks and connected them with the European system. The PDF or the revision report of the Canadian system gives waaay too much info on each level, but I put a link to the pages with a snapshot of expected competencies at each level into each of the parallel European levels. So there is both quick and dirty road mapping possible, as well as a detailed list of ideas of what might be needed next for the duration of this project. lots of reuse possible as it is not language specific.
Thanks Lord for this
(18/Dec/16)Through materials I received from Paul Sade, I tracked down a quick and dirty method of self assessment - a 2 page cheat sheet
Mar3/17 - I find that I am very self aware of absorbing a lot of the language and its flow and am actually understanding a lot intuitively. Just being able to do more and more is a form of self bench marking...likely below he threshold of most testing mechanisms...grin...
I think that bench marking is a political football and there is a lot of room for institutional game playing. having outside ways of tracking progress might well cut down on the negative impact of such realities, especially within he formal system of education, but of course, it can't be stopped...just worked around. My tool making project for language learning has been a great help in tracking my progress and really moving into deep learning mode, which is he mode I generally prefer, even though we all use all there modes (deep, instrumental, and surface).
I hunch that the person who quipped that it is speech and aural comprehension which the general public uses to gauge level of function is likely pretty accurate except for some specific occupations. That is what I find folks watching me for...can I actually converse with them intheir language...that is the significant dimension for them I think.
