Paper-Trail For Spanish Language Learning Project - Relating To "Vocabulary "
Paper-trail -
Initial Start Date - (16 /Nov/ 2016) - Starting into the book The Loom Of Language and its comments that it is not just the top 5000 words (or whatever) that are important, but which words, I found to be great. I was familiar with Basic English fro dad, so the concept fit in well.
The suggestion to make the dictionary the core of the record also was a great one, with its marking of cognates, nouns verbs and so forth. I had never heard of using the dictionary for all its worth, but it is already shaping up well.
Putting a spine re-enforcement also made it possible to treat roughly as paperbacks are designed for 25 readings, and hardcover for 100.
My pulling expressions in French from Louise Penny's books was excellent as it put the actual phrase into its proper context, as with the cognate approach use in Greek in 30 days back in College. One of the difficulties with cognates is that it is hard to know how to utilize them without a larger context. I found Louise Penny had about 75 words and expressions in some of her crime novels. A great tool for me as I kept notes throughout.
(18/Dec/16) - I made a spreadsheet of the Euro feeder languages and shared with several people (as at this point) via Dropbox
Base is laid and started with Ogden and Loom of Language material inserted
3/mar/17 - great resources for word usage in multiple languages and having a concept of the breakdown of meaning words and function words (few in number and high in usage rates) has been hugely helpful. Berlitz has a book on 80 words that are most helpful in 25 languages as well as additional notes on unique features of each of those languages. It was put together with the help from many folks around the world.
I find the need to sharpen the saw and develop my own tool set useful, but not half as satisfying as being functional would be for me...there were warnings about this and cautions to be patient. What helps is the knowledge that the other approach from formal school did not work for me, and still doesn't so IO have to find a variety of components in my mix which will work for me. Using the song method (see media section) has been helpful, and the Saturday church where music, words on he screen and lots of repetition have been very helpful...as well as the fact that I have a huge background in the spiritual/religious area so that I know what is being talked about. Being able to come home and look up the music on YouTube has been an excellent re-enforcement for this work.
I read somewhere recently that Ogden's material on Basic English is pretty much archived now and is used primarily for research purposes. I guess his insights have been absorbed elsewhere.
