Process Option 01 - "Attune to Personal Motivation"
- Anything which furthers personal goals gets our attention

- Think long and hard about exactly why you want to learn
another language, then leverage that in your favor. It helps
focus you on what parts of the language you want to learn and
how well. It was through this that I came to discover my
purpose was "in order to help me play my guitar better"
(though I had absolutely no idea what that meant...grin).

Process Option 02 - "Stimulants of Attention "
- Anything in the context which threatens our survival
stimulates immediate attention and focus - cues are picked up
very fast here. (Lonsdale)
Process Option 03 - "Personalized Meaning "
- Language learning which relates to something meaningful in
our larger life-context maintains our interest (Lonsdale)
Process Option 04 - "Focus on Relevance "
- Try to keep focus of language learning activities and
content relevant to you. (Lonsdale)
Process Option 05 - "Build on Existing Memory "
- Build on what you already know, like overlapping items which
two languages have, and familiar subject matter (Lonsdale)
Process Option 06 - "Keep A Positive Emotional State"
- When people are in a negative emotional state they are not
learning (Lonsdale)

Krashen book (free online) Principles and Practices Krashen
is very much into keeping the emotional resistance barriers
down, and has a lot to say on this subject in this excellent
book
Process Option 07- "Increase tolerance For Ambiguity"
- When language is new, make it a game to gain successive
approximations to meaning, rather than insisting on
perfection. (Lonsdale)
Process Option 08 - "Harness The Hawthorn Effect"
- Researchers are troubled by the "Hawthorn Effect". This is
named after the factory where an experiment was conducted to
find out what working conditions were most productive. The
problem was everybody improved because they were being watched
and involved. For those in the business of teaching and
learning, it might be well to turn everything into an
experiment in order to automatically get a "boost" in results.
In this case it does not matter if "an experiment got
botched"...we are learning not experimenting for real...but
the effect works just the same.
Process Option 09 - Don't sweat grammatical forms and
structures which the human mind can't utilize until later in the
language acquisition process

Krashen says that some claim the TPRS approach will turbo-boost
a person through the first "silent' stage of learning in 10
hours rather than 6 months. He also urges teachers and outsiders
not to push people to speak until they are ready, but rather, to
lower the threat of the context to make it easier for people to
start speaking, and has lots of ideas on these subjects.
