Writing in every language has followed speaking, so the symbols used to stand for sounds are close approximations at best. They are used to remind people who already speak the language
The writing system uses sounds and syllables to create a "picture" of the language spoken, rather than spelling it out in readable text. It is definitely not for everybody, but the earlier handwritten system is fascinating
what sound to make. As a learning tool such symbols are sometimes a problem. There is another way of writing sounds besides IPA and Alphabet in Spanish, called "shorthand" or in Spanish, taquigrafía.
At present it is mechanized and is used to generate real time transcriptions for legal proceedings in court and also for generating subtitles for events and media. It is designed to enable a record to be kept at the speed of speech.
