The Pastor

I asked her if she’d work with me
To help a small community
To worship – as they’d asked me to –
Agreed – and then my mind she blew.

In few deft words led kids away
To think of that ascension day –
Had young one clip the ribbon blue
In awe – balloon – it upward flew.

A tricky sequence – got it right,
Her words of prayer and blessing tight –
She clipped down to its essence fair
With life its ground, not full of air.

It looked so simple, but I knew
’Twas far beyond what I could do.
It’s not just what she said, you see,
But what, through life, she’d come to be.
