sobresalto - Somersault” (Job 3:26)[Spanish Jerusalem Bible Series - Job sub-series - # Job 3:26] [Apostolic Ministry Series - Stage 12 #5] [And Pandemic Series]

3:26 sums up Job’s state of mind –
“I lack a peace – tranquility I find
Is not in me – no place to catch my breath”;
No Kingdom-layer, while all around is death.

Pin of the pinwheel’s swirl of twirling fins;
Peace in its center – Kingdom-life begins
For one and all, when center-space is found;
Not here for Job – all life for him spins ’round.

In Spanish text, expression sums it up –
Whirl is his context (life can be quite rough);
There is no let up, like a perfect storm,
Word, sobresalto, speaks of life that’s torn.

For sobre means up-over; salto, jump –
A jump that tumbles over – rolled-up lump;
In English we get somersault from this,
Which doesn’t speak tranquility or bliss.

For Job, all life around him spins around,
And he is at its center – shifting ground –
Not centered as a pin on pinwheel’s twirl,
But axle at the friction-point of whirl.

Life gets that way – for many ’round the world –
While this pandemic’s on, they’re in the swirl;
todo es sobresalto” they would say –
For them all’s whirling chaos here today.

Lord, as I read these words you brought me to,
I heard – “First thing that everyone should do,
Is go up on the pinwheel’s central pin,
And find their respite there – let peace begin”.

It’s after that when folks can move along,
But centered-life is where we all belong;
Fins can’t be stopped; nor wind be calmed each day;
But center-pin of Kingdom gives a way –

To find a peace, a respite from the spin;
New life around us – life of peace begin;
The Kingdom-point (or layer) gives place to grow,
As we mature in life – and come to know –

What puzzles us as we reflect on life;
We need not understand to be alright,
But rather, made “All right” we’re freed to learn –
For sobresalto ’round us, we can spurn.

Thanks Lord for this.
