“Com-Merce” [Reflections On Charles H. Parkhurst (ed) Portraits And Principles of The World's Great Men And Women, N.Y. : Springfield:The King-Richardson Co. 1899 - # 92/100]

It started as a title of this piece does
I googled it – wherein I found release
In entomology of “Commerce” word,
And Moore-ish poets calling depths unheard –

Within our Western-cultured-business-world –
They played with roots and terms beneath the swirl
Which Western life has driven much too far;
How soothing early global visions are.

For “mer” or “mar” is “sea” – Moors of the sea –
Where roots of “Mooring” boats, and “Measures” be,
And “Love” itself entwined back to the first –
It took obsessive greed, dissolved the worst –

Of side-tracked West’s obsession with its greed,
Replacing it with ancient concept’s seed;
Presented within airy poetry;
Inviting me to play “Commercially”.

Their ancient Moorish of view – “Together trade” –
From far and wide – which ancient shipping laid
Foundation for – to be with you again
Exchanging gifts – in love – reducing pain.

Lord, this guy says that “Man was born to trade”;
But Moorish poets say mistake he made –
We love to be together, trading things –
For warmth between two peoples that act brings.

From back within the misty dawn of time,
Comes echoes of a larger view than mine –
Lord, thank You for this old “Commercial” view
These Moorish traders have for us re-newed.

Thanks Lord for this.
