“Our Fathers’ War” [Reflections on Sun Tsu's Art Of War #12 – general-B]

She said her dad from training left
To help with harvest – thought it best
As harvest couldn’t wait – no help
To take it off – so, on the shelf –

He sat awaiting ship-out time;
Request denied, he cross the line –
Helped with the harvest – “Call me when
It’s ship-out time, I’ll come back then.”

When harvest was complete he went
Back to his unit, Europe bent;
His boss was mad – as punishment,
Deployed to Arctic – North’s defense.

“It likely save my life”, he said,
“Had I deployed to front instead,
I would have action seen, but I
Was in Alaska – radar guy.

“Had foe come that way, we’d be toast;
They didn’t come; for me the most
We did was sit, play cards, and watch;
My war-years there were mostly talk”

Two men went North, their children met,
Got married, lived up North, and yet,
The implications of the war
Still ripple downward as before.

The issues still each day remain
For one and all on earth the same –
“How can we make a cozy world
When all around the pinwheel swirls?”

Lord, as I move now in this tome
To Chapter twelve, here in our home, you
Help us hear relevance today
In things which Sun Tsu has to say.

Thanks Lord for this.
