“A Cozy Language” [Spanish Series] (Romans 12:1-9; Matthew 5:4; Psalms 23)
“Me gusta / gustaria” are not ways we build our world,
For comfort underlying them does not engage our whirl;
We translate them (in error) when we think they say, “I like”,
“Would like” – for “I” is indirect – oh, for the love of Mike!Can we not take attention from our acts, to “cozy” be?
Can we not reach into their words and learn to “cozy” see?
For underlying “gusta / gustaria” is a way
Of doing life which “Comforts me”, and makes me want to say –One’s life is not just doing things, accomplishing some goal;
Or gaining wealth; or pushing folks stuck in some slippery hole;
Or prophesying of our doom now Ozone layer is gone;
Or setting people straight each day so they can move along.“It’s also ’bout a “cozy” time on planet earth today;
Of snuggling by our fireplace; of heeding what folks say,
As they pour out their hearts to us, conveying “Te amo”;
It’s being “deep and misty pool”, not chasing down some goal.“I’d like” (for us), is “doing things without offending folks”;
It’s muscular beneath veneer of gently spoken jokes;
For just beneath our softened phrase, agenda seeks its way –
For we would like to be about some action here, today.It’s subtle, but I hear in this a “cozy” way of life;
For “I” is absent from their phrase; it’s “me” that comes to light
As object of some action which brings pleasure, “coziness”–
A statement made to man or God, of ways that they could bless.Thanks Lord for this.
