“What Works For Me” [Reflections On Ronald B. Tobias’ Book 20 Master Plots Series – #3/7]

“Whatever works” is what to do;
It’s best, if something works for you,
That it come front and center now,
And guide, augment, or show you how.

So all the chapters in this tome
Give ways and means, then guide you home;
Once you decide what works for you,
Pick way which helps you so to do.

Plot-driven books have character;
Reverse is true – as pot you stir;
Select a balance, ratio,
Then stick to it as on you go.

In comedy (a timing thing),
Play off the “Known” and it will sing;
Self-deprecation works quite well;
It’s tough – succeed and it will sell.

Some see a “Mind” or “Body” thing –
Two forces which success can bring;
And Dante here, says negative
Is richly found in narrative.

The media loves “Action” flicks,
And literary, “Human” mix;
A ratio of them again
Is what is key – maintain your blend.

For me, it’s all the “People” stuff,
In contexts actors find quite rough,
Or tough at least – they come to know
Themselves, and world, as on they go.

I like to privilege the low
In social register – I know
They’re lesser-known, but what the heck,
I think, “You ain’t seen nothin’ yet”.

Thanks Lord for this.
