“The Braid Ahead”

It’s not my sauce, it’s Bodmer’s work,
Which I update at best;
Its concept is quite awesome still,
But it has come to rest –

On sandbars in the stream of time,
Or like a brick well placed,
But lost amidst what’s now called ‘wall’,
Just noticed if defaced.

But maybe it’s a concept which
Has come of age today;
Though English base needs fresher words
For us to work and play.

Who knows what lies back up the pipes
Which served to feed our pool?
Called “English” now, and used a lot,
But wants for tighter tool.

No doubt each feeder-language has
Evolved along with ours;
So Bodmer’s roads back up the pipes
Have ending of which now sours.

If they’re old fashioned, like his own,
Each one must be refreshed;
To use “The list” as now revised,
Perhaps would not be best.

I’m not the linguist that he was,
But like the “Service List”,
Perhaps I’ll we’ve it in and out,
Bless others where it’s mixed.

But leave to greater minds than mine
The larger task ahead –
To full-revise his intro tool –
’Till then, by him be fed.

I doubt his concept will catch on
In fashion viewed as ‘old’;
But it won’t be the only time
The good’s left in the cold.

I thank You, Lord, for warning me
To focus on my task,
Of braiding my dyslexic rope
Ahead – resolved at last.

Thanks Lord for this.
