“Change”

“I want life to keep on going
Just as it once did before”;
We all say that, claim, believe it,
But, good-God, such we abhor –

In the womb of just one section
Of a life-expanding dream,
Halted in the midst of growing?
Well, that’s not quite what I mean.

Stopped in childhood Peter-Pan-like?
Locked into just eating steak?
Skipping rope through all the ages?
Learning how to sew or bake?

How ’bout life in pre-historic –
Having bath just once or twice;
Broken bones which get no setting;
Vermin rampant, bedbugs, lice?

Life without our phones, computers,
Airplanes, mining, hydro-dams;
Bit Coins, shares, split-second info,
Software laying out our plans?

Think of books, and songs, and movies,
Made in recent years for each –
How enriched our lives emerging
Butterfly-like, in our reach.

Thank You, Lord, for life abundant,
Ever-changing, ever new;
Like the waters of a river,
Constantly refreshed by You.

Thanks Lord for this.
