“Women At Pause” (TM)

“I can no longer wait for you,” they say,
“For I have roads which I must take today;
Ten thousand horses in my head fan out
Across the world, each on a different route.”

“I’ve waited all this time, but no more – now,
Child rearing done, this hormone-drop allows
New life for me – I feel I cannot wait;
My ‘Best before’ is fast approaching date.”

And so they leave – some run; some stay in place;
New lease on life’s expression, case-by-case,
Disruptive is – “I will not tolerate”;
“I’m boundary setting”; “Must not hesitate”.

“Wise woman, I”; “It’s feeling that’s supreme”;
“It’s my turn now”; “New energy has been
Erupting in my veins”; “Now hear me roar!”
“I’m underway; not held back as before”.

And men? Perhaps they’ve seen in daughters’ lives,
The gearing-up-disruption which their wives
Are gearing down from – puberty we miss;
We get our wives pre-shifted, heaven kissed.

If we hang on through three disruptive years,
Just disengage, be anchor through the tears,
It settles down, and mellows out once more;
Then, decades hence, drops – lower than before.

They razz us guys about “two twenty’s trade”;
About “Ferraris”; “trysts we have with maids”;
Our “Fears of death”; “Young competition’s rise”;
But ride through this and you will end up wise.

Its chemicals – withdrawal – de-tox woes,
Which drive such antics – forty years or so
They’ve been around for making kids – oh say!
Soon they’ll be gone; life done some other way.

It’s something they don’t teach in high school days;
Few benefit from guidance in their ways
Of doing life, but hopefully in this
Transition-time, they’re helped to focused bliss.

I have this colleague, “Pausing” she suggests;
Has helped so many women rise to best;
Has been to other side, now is a guide;
Turns churning-times into a merry ride.

I think sometimes she feels, “Oh, what’s the use?
Just let them run, those horses on the loose”;
And yet I look – results ten years or more,
Speak for themselves – need’s greater than before.

So, mentor-friend, your vision is sublime –
To mentor mentors; help each one to find
A way, unique to each, to help their friends –
Exchange cash for your help ’till chaos ends.

Thanks Lord for this.
