"On Stepping Out" (1st John) [Reflections On Book Powerlines by Leona Frances Choy - Chapter 9 , S.D. Gordon #14/25]

There’s times in life, I found, at least,
We must step out, when we’re released
Into some venture, called of God
To take some action on this sod.

Sometimes it looms before, like now;
Sometimes the waves lap on the bow
As gentle breezes move us on,
And from our hearts pour pleasant songs.

But challenge comes expectantly –
No power on earth can meet that day,
But grace of God we find at last,
And power to face that stormy blast.

We need not wait for tragic days,
Or crises in our living ways
To tap into God’s Spirit-source
For use as daily life’s resource.

But power can build bit at a time,
Like walking daily – strength we find
Is therefore living here and now,
And choices made ease life somehow.

Encourager’s with “ways” and “means”
Have processes for life – it seems
To me we’re trying far too hard,
When inch is cinch – but hard is yard.

Sam Gordon works too hard at this
For me, at least, as he insists
On “ways,” and “rules,” and “steps” of faith;
Best part for him? “Step out; don’t wait”.

So too with photographs I’ve seen
Which people take from where they’ve been;
Amazing pictures snapped in life
Of world around, bathed and in God’s light.

Those people each stepped out that day;
With camera, took time to say,
“I saw this awkey-bird in flight
And caught the scene in golden light”.

Then I have picture I can use
To share John’s letter, where he used
Such spiral structure like that bird
As it rose up – wrote what he’d heard.

Team sport it is – all share in this;
As publisher I can’t resist
The lure of photos which I mix
With words for others – “Hey! See this?”

Thanks Lord for this.
