“If We Don’t Have The Spirit…” [Reflections On Book Powerlines by Leona Frances Choy - Chapter 20 #2/25]

If we don’t have the Spirit, shut ’er down;
Stay home; don’t take another’s piece of ground;
Put boards on windowpanes;
Pound nails in doors the same;
Step back and pray the Spirit soon abound.

We plod on with our preaching year-by-year;
Results are slow – if ever they appear;
For Spirit best we ask,
Like fragrance in the flask,
And brokenness that Spirit might come near.

If we act outside Spirit’s winsome way,
Thus carry on our work from day to day,
The glory is just ours
As we apply our powers,
And adulations come through what we say.

There’s others in my life far up ahead,
Examples that they leave by which I’m led,
Are noted by their faith,
For Spirit they awake
In me, as by Your manna, Lord, I’m fed.

Lord, here’s a man called Spurgeon, long ago;
He preached, and taught, and mentored, this I know –
He wrote so many tomes,
Some still are in our homes;
Claims Spirit through activity can show.

Lord when I read the poetry I wrote,
The photo-poems Spirit in me woke
With clarity and ease;
“Work sector as you please”,
Comes back to me as I write out this note.

“Eight hours a day photography”, You said;
Do anything you wish on road ahead;
Lord, any time I’ve tried,
It’s been a merry ride;
I’m hearing, “Take this way until you’re dead”.

“Make way for Spirit’s flow through - out your life;
Not under Gospel-layer – that is night;
I’m hearing Spurgeon’s plea,
As formerly in Nee –
Such pruning, self-dying sets things right.

Lord, first I heard we lack a better way;
And means to make a way so we can say
A word which can be heard
(All else is quite absurd),
So folks can live by Spirit day by day.

I’m hearing, “Drop the rest; now press on through;
Use photo-focus in the work you do;
Sure, write about it lots;
Let Spirit flow through loss;
Each step will open up to clearer view.

Lord, thanks for this insightful little book,
Through which my photos take a different look –
First Finney (find a way
To gospel message say),
Now Spurgeon – stop the block of Spirit-brook.

Thanks Lord for this.
