"No Sober Second Thought" [Fawcett #35] (James 4:1-3; Matt. 6:19-24)

Pull back and let them lollygag,
Then let them have it – in the bag
It wasn’t, though they thought it was –
A year of preps held up – because –

When one locks on a plan, one has
Philosophy, no razzmatazz;
It might be seen another way,
So think on it another day.

If “Going down, but you go too”
Is what they hold as point of view,
You must step back and change your way,
Or you’ll be in a mess, and pay.

For “hopeless mess” has strange affect
For those who’ve lost – not over yet –
So stop and pause at outset now,
And for some second thoughts allow.

And, in defence, (“I’ll take them too”)
Just think again what they might do –
Like bring new weapons to the scene,
And change what your defence might mean.

A quarter million lost their lives
So needlessly – this thought survives –
What if “the bomb” was dropped right there?
Would that not serve to give “the scare”?

But no, the sites had risen higher –
Destroy some cities; light some fires;
Send messages both locally
And to the Commies ’cross the sea.

Its money’s ways that matter here;
The lives of men, to me it’s clear,
Are second to this vicious dance –
We fight for making money’s chance.

Thanks Lord for this.
