"Be The Turkey In A Turkey Shoot" [Fawcett #24] (James 4:1-9)

One day some turkeys in the lot
Were squabbling about who got
To use the coal Samoa had –
Great Britain, US, German lads.

At first they used big guns and ships,
And then at conference used their lips;
Arrangements made despite the folks
Whose land it was – made cruel joke.

So civil war twixt puppet kings
Broke out, then allies did their thing –
“They’re just some natives, let’s attack
And blow their minds with rat-a-tat.”

But rat-a-tat jammed up that day,
And all but two then ran away
Back to the shore and ships’ big guns;
Then lips at conference got things done.

US and Germans got the coal;
The Britts sold out for other goals;
Samoans? Got short-and of straw
So coal could fill big brother’s maw.

Samoa won the battle, yes,
But big boys linger around there yet;
At least the US – Germany
Got clobbered later, had to flee.

So maybe fight in your backyard;
Don’t cocky yet; the battle’s hard;
“Why do we fight?” Asked James that day –
“To get resource; not have to pay”.

Thanks Lord for this.
