The Game

An inning’s not a baseball game; a round is not a fight;
A hand is not a poker game; so play with all your might;
Some folks give up before they start; some just before the end,
But perseverance wins the day, turns straight into a bend.

One never knows what will befall the twists and turns of fate;
If premature is your desire, success will have to wait;
Sometimes it is a miracle which turns life on its ear,
Sometimes an intervention brings the unexpected near.

Bob said that God can’t bless us much beyond what we expect;
That’s true, for grace to us is lost if losing we elect;
Sometimes through life we get prepared, then turn the other way;
We’d best prepare as we are led, then face each coming day.

It helps when we see up the road, though often we can’t see;
It helps when God directs our steps and helps us grow to be
The best of what He had in mind, sufficient to the day,
For then each challenge we can meet, from up above the fray.
