Evaluative Research

Evaluation research is conducted in order to assess the outcomes of a program or activity. This type of research has many complications, not the least of which is the political environment within which it is frequently carried out. There is often a lot at stake for the various players in a project, and evaluative research can be skewed by such factors.

Dr. Hayse notes in his excellent two page definition of Evaluation research that it is actually a continuum of activity ranging from neglect to scientific study.

There is an excellent (PDF) PowerPoint on the subject including typical steps for conducting evaluative research.
