Demonstration Research

Demonstration research is research designed to prove out the feasibility of a concept. It is roughly parallel to the "Pilot Project". It is carried out in circumstances which are appropriate to the research agenda. Its purposes are both functional and exploratory.

According to an article on their use in the United States by Debra Viadero, they gained popularity in the 1970's-80's in addressing the problems of welfare reform, and are now being put forward for use in educational reform. They also have been used in research dealing with homelessness. These demonstration-research projects are to come under the new standards of ethics for federally funded projects in the United States.
