Vetranary Medicine
It seems that it is harder to get people to buy rural Veterinary practices now, as most of the Canadian population is now urban, and prefers an urban lifestyle. Even within the veterinary profession, students are gravitating to "small animal" practice and away from work with larger animals in either farm or intensive farm operations. The shift to large farm operations, particularly with pigs, in the last decade in the Western part of Manitoba has big implications for local residents. The role of Veterinarians in both the health of animals and the safety of food under these new conditions is a primary concern today.
