“Jesus Wants You For A Sunbeam” (Matt.5:14) [reflections on Watchman Nee's book – Changed Into His Likeness series, For Washington:Christian Literature Crusade, 1907 (1971 reprint) – Chapter 1]

“Jesus wants you for a Sunbeam”
(Ditty I sang as a child);
Simple in essence and action,
“Light up your space with a smile.

Knee has a concept he writes of –
God wants some folks for a “Name”;
I thought, “I am” was his handle,
Yahweh” his tongue-twisting game.

Then when I listened more closely,
Nee had some food for new thought –
“I am the God of your fathers”,
Much greater meaning Nee taught.

We could exemplify fullness –
“Abraham, Isaac, and Jake –
Shows us, as group of three fathers,
Difference in life God can make.

Nee said when we are God’s namesake,
Shining like lights in the dark,
Folks see God’s goal and a process,
As we on new lives embark.

“I am the God of your fathers,
Three are especially clear –
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
Nee spells God’s meaning out here –

“Abe” in Nee’s package of meaning,
Was just a typical bloke;
God chose him out of his peer group,
Into new purpose Abe woke.

“Isaac” received all Abe’s treasure,
Served on a platter of gold;
That’s how we also receive it,
“There for the taking”, we’re told.

“Jacob” was clever, resourceful,
Full of himself, wrecked things up;
Spirit spent years fixing Jacob;
Just as with us – Spirit’s tough.

“I am the God of your fathers.”
I want your lives, for My name;
Life in My Kingdom, I promise
Will be like those three – the same –

“Folks whom I call have no polish;
Gift of new life’s free for all;
Spirit will shape you and mold you –
Oaks from small acorns grow tall.

It’s not just one or the other,
All three guys make up the set;
Interesting concept presented,
Model I won’t soon forget.

Thanks Lord for this.
