“The Focal Point” [Reflections on Watchman Nee's Normal Christian Life Chapter 4-5]

The focal point (Nee’s point of view),
Is borderland twixt old and new –
“Abide in Me” – the old is dead;
“And I in you” – for what’s ahead.

Lord, Nee says keep yourself off ‘self’,
And ‘How I got down off the shelf’;
Stay, rather, on “The old is dead
In Christ, now I’m by Jesus fed.”

To me that speaks of Kingdom-layer
As place to “Be” – response to prayer;
But now I see the view from there
Is “Dead in Christ” – “Can’t be repaired”.

Lord, that perspective changes all –
There’s no retreat, all since the fall
Is trashed in You, now Kingdom-layer
Is here for all, can’t be compared –

At least to what we had before
Where cash and power demanded ‘More’
Until we’d trashed the world You’d made
Beyond repair with hoe or spade.

But what I hear in this part too,
Is where to keep my point of view –
“Just hold your focus”, ‘Nee would say,
“On interface that’s here today –

The interface twixt death and life,
Divider keen as blade of knife –
In Christ that is, not held in you –
Old’s trashed in Him; through Him life’s new.

Thanks Lord for this, I’ll think on this
For something else is here amiss
So much to ponder in this tome
With varied layers for thoughts to roam.

Thanks Lord for this.
