“If Age One 'Has'” (Job.2:4)[Spanish Jerusalem Bible Series - Job sub-series - # Job 2:4] [Pandemic Series]

It’s true today, I find at least,
“Age” one will give for “Life” –
Take pain and mem’ry loss away
Right now, to dark brings light.

“Who needs it?” One might ask today
When life quite threatened is;
So “Quality” goes down the drain
The heart of leisure, biz.

In Spanish, age is, “One has years”,
Not “I am X years old”;
So satan’s “He’ll give all he has
Makes such assertions bold.

He’ll give “Old age” (as “Quantity”)
For “Quality” today;
So English are now catching up
When words like this we say.

So satan, in this story old
Has figured humans out –
It’s “Skin for skin”, just like he says,
’Cept Job – what story’s ’bout.

Will Job bad-mouth God to His face
When flesh and bones are touched?
How ’bout our predilection here?
Of that there’s far more doubt.

Pandemic’s hitting old, infirm,
Far more than young and fit;
It “Culls the herd, which better is”
(Both cases, where I sit).

Old age is good, but quality
Has not caught up with span;
“So what’s the point of living on
When living now you can?”

I know a lot who’ve died in life
(Old age set in quite young);
At ninety-five one chick I knew
Was lively and such fun!

So life and age connected are
With fragile threads indeed;
Like gossamer of poet’s world,
Such webs between, we need.

Thanks Lord for this.
