“Teach em As You Hope They’ll Teach” [Louis Schmier Series #2]
The Prof’s aren’t teachers, ’cept of course as here,
Where Education’s subject, making clear
Techniques to teachers of the K-to-twelve
(Ranks of such Profs train teachers, often well).Not Louis – he was history Prof, as such
Was well esteemed, up through the ranks shared much
By way of scholar’s output, was no slouch –
High-energy, no time to warm a couch.The “U” is more apprenticeship at base –
“Learn to be learners” in some learning space;
Apprenticed to Pro-learners, just like trades –
Kids at learn from senior learners day by day.To me the gist of what friend Louie did
Was model how to train up younger kids
To learners be in K-to-twelve ahead
For years to come, as they their students fed.I’m “Creenglish” – that’s a dose of Cree in mix –
They raise their kids this way – don’t have to fix
Kids constantly – let them find how to live
Their lives – apprenticed as they’d stories give.The K-to-twelve spoon-feeds, not Creenglish way –
Let them learn how to learn from day to day;
Teach as you hope they’ll teach throughout their lives,
That children’s children learn to live and thrive.So Louis’ blog, now posted on the net,
Is great resource for parent-teacher set;
To gain ideas, draw from Louis’ blog
Fresh ways to learn to learn, and dialogue.For conversation, stories, modeled life,
Is how Cree raise their kids – don’t “Set them right”,
But learn yourself; encourage them to learn
What works for them; both old and new not spurn.So let’s embark upon the journey now –
I’ll demonstrate my what, and why, and how,
That other Creenglish parent-teachers learn
To learn – that children’s children, bread can earn.Thanks Lord for this.
