“Weaponizing Relationships” (Ps.11) [Reflections on Ralph D. Sawyer's Translation of One Hundred Unorthodox Strategies - Battle Tactics of Chinese Warfare # 89-90]

This set describes the little girls at school
Who weaponize relationships (That’s, “cool
To those you shun; to others being warm
As you entice your team to others scorn”).

What is described within these pages has
Approach to interaction I despise
When turned on me, but also know quite well –
Was raised by folks who thrived within this hell.

The bribes which one would hand out as a bait
To succor actions, they don’t hesitate
To sprinkle out – “You’ll be my friend” is one
Used frequently each day beneath the sun.

But then again, “Estrangement”, use of “Spies”
Is part and parcel of the gossip, lies,
And slander used to drive a fatal wedge
Between one’s rivals – hid behind a hedge –

Of “Niceness”, “Confidences”, “Fatal words”
Of others; spreading tales that “I have heard”;
Until such crazy-making twists their minds,
Entrapping folks with words appearing kind.

Lord, recent studies indicate “The ones
Who stand around to watch a little fun”
Are potent far beyond their numbered strength;
They mitigate the damage, if at length –

They move against the evil in such ways –
Call spade a spade; deny such antics pay;
Report it all, and press for justice now;
Take on such bully tactics, showing how –

A person should respond – set self aside;
Refuse to then behind the others hide;
Grace me to step up into such a scene;
Confront, in You, such evil – mean and mean.

Thanks Lord for this.
