“Take A Good Look Around” (1Cor.2:16; Jn.15; 1Pet.5:8) [Reflections on Ralph D. Sawyer's Translation of One Hundred Unorthodox Strategies - Battle Tactics of Chinese Warfare #31-32]
“Hundred reports”, the old guys said,
“Are not as good” (like being fed)
“As one good look”, so he went out
And looked around, removed all doubt.In marshland this applies as well –
Climb higher ground so you can tell
Terrain – which works against and for
Your forward movement? Don’t ignore.So knowing foe, and knowing land,
Are key – you both must understand,
So you are not caught in some bind;
Go out, look ’round, keep that in mind.Lord, evil-one does that, I guess;
We think he does not do his best,
But he is smart, two thousand years
You’ve campaigned, giving him the gears.And us? Like illustration here –
We need to stay in You, that’s clear;
For You at least know what is what,
Where best to go, or pause, that such –Eventualities, like here,
Are dealt with as each one appears;
I’m hearing, “Much of battle-life
Is in-between the ‘gun and knife’”.I’m also hearing, don’t take on
Enticing bait, ’cause if you’re wrong
You sucker into traps with ease;
Don’t covet “Small” to ego please.Lord, that’s so different from that guy,
The Westman lawyer – I complied,
But hunched he’d blown it (did not speak
And make the court report complete).“It makes us seem more ‘David-like’
Attacking big Goliath – fight
Like proper soldier – sword and spear,
And hit him when he ventures near.”Well, that guy lost his head as well –
Not him – just client, he could tell
What client wanted bottom line;
And me? My exit played just fine.That lawyer could not see that size
Irrelevant is when one’s eyes
Are not our own, but those of Christ –
Says “Left” or “Right” in His advice.He thought that “Large” was “Small” – in fact,
Quite upside down was sin’s attack;
Thanks Lord for clarifying this –
Once more a side of heaven’s kiss.Thanks Lord for this.
