“Living Spies” (Numbers 13 and 14; Joshua 2:1ff; Matthew 22:36-40) [Reflections on Sun Tsu's Art Of War #13-1C-5]
The living Spies, like Caleb, Josh,
And ten more men sent by the boss
To check out Canaan for the rest,
Brought different stories – folks addressed.Ten said, “No way will win that fight,
So we had better just sit tight”;
The other two, that’s Caleb, Josh,
Said, “Let’s proceed, we’ll win, by gosh!”Type five is just a spy that lives
To give report on what foe gives
By way of clues to what’s ahead,
And how their side might best be led.An ordinary class of spy –
Part of the army – keen his eye,
And mind, though looking like a dunce
Is all a game, not seen at once.A will of iron, active bloke;
Robust, with courage more than folks
Around, with strength to match his will,
Enduring hardship’s bitter pill.He takes a dose of shame in stride;
Ignominy walks by his side;
The end’s what matters – get the goods;
“What e’er the cost”, is understood.A Spy for God, book I once read –
He gave report, but, it is said
No one believed his full report;
Rejected him with strong retort.But really, they denied they knew
Atrocities against the Jews;
They privately cheered Germans on,
For anti-Semites were quite strong.Lord, “Spy for You” is role some play
In Kingdom-life from day to day;
They’re “Living Spies” – “Mobile”, “Survive”,
Though in the end, they mostly die.Amazing how it all pans out
As we grow up, all swirled about
Like others on the pinwheel ride,
’Till center-pin’s where we reside.And even in our ventures bold,
Where tasks for doing we are told,
It’s from the Kingdom-layer’s space
We get to live in any case.And that’s much better than to go
Amongst the rocks where lives the foe,
So we can invite to Your layer
The ones for whom are offered prayer.Thanks Lord for this.
