“The Test” [Linguistic Series - [Reflections on Bk: James K. Van Fleet Lifetime Conversation Guide. Englewood Cliffs New Jersey: Prentice-Hall Inc. 1984 - Ch.1]

“Are you in this for you, or me?”
“Are things you ask to set me free?”
Or are your sweet words traps for flies,
All dressed up nice as food-disguise?

Sure, I believe you will help out,
But after is what I doubt –
Am I then free to walk away?
Or must I now as puppet play –

And dance to your tune – now obliged
To serve you – take some downward slide
To captive’s hell, enslavement’s core,
That you can milk from me much more?

I’ll cross some line – not serious –
To see if you will raise a fuss;
If you say, “Stay, do anything,
But leave” – I’ll see at once death’s sting.

But if you call me on my sin;
Say, “Thought you wished to life begin;
Those rules were there to help you live;
Comply; or darned good reason give.”

Then I will know you’re wanting health
For me, and not increase of wealth
For you – then we can settle in
And road to healthy-life begin.

Thanks Lord for this.
