"Bridging The Gap"  [Reflections on Chris Orwig's Book Visual Poetry - Chapter 4: 17-24] (Acts 17:5-9)

Ah! Now I see – I had not seen before –
My silver-base of photo work’s the door
Into control – for newbies struggle here;
I did not know – that much to me’s now clear.

For they are stuck in “auto” just like me,
Addicted to what “program mode” can be;
The issue of high average output style
Can trap them too – for them it takes a while –

To learn, like me, the thrill of full control;
Pre-visualize – on time it takes its toll
For all of us – but I put in my time;
Convert it now – control is once more mine.

“Start with the drop of setting known as ‘P’
Shift to the ‘A’ or ‘S’ and soon you’ll be
Back in control – keep mind alert again;
Spite slowing down, your quality remains.

“Use ‘A’ for depth, and ‘S’ for blur”, he says,
“Then ‘ISO’ to boost the light that lays
Like flow of water onto sensor’s plate –
The flow’s the same, internal boost of rate.

I can do that – it takes a tweak of thought;
For ‘ISO’ was not what we were taught
To use in film – each roll could change, of course,
But here each frame can shift, “the film to force”.

There is the piece, I think, that changes things –
A sticking point which silver background brings;
We found control by keeping ISO’
As constant rate, that’s how we gained control.

Now “high-end” tool’s defined by ISO;
The better tool can raise how high you go;
For pixel-count has reached effective use –
The rest’s the same, which ISO sets loose.

Thanks Lord for this.
