"Extra-Ordinary"  [Reflections on Chris Orwig's Book Visual Poetry - Chapter 4 - 5] (Matt. 5:14-16; John 1:1-18;)

Don’t think that light elusive is;
It’s not, and in the photo-biz
It’s central – but because there’s lots,
Elusive light is quickly lost.

Good light, that is, makes pictures sing;
Selection is the part we bring
Of all that’s there to choose, one piece –
And to the rest give our release.

That’s option one of all surprise,
Intrigue, eye-popping, undisguised
We see it all the time – mixed in
With other light for other things.

So match it up to make it right,
’Till mood and tone suit subject right;
But subjects need some further thought,
Then light’s tuned up to what you’ve got.

My “punchy pictures” at the first,
Like jokes, and puns, from best to worst;
Sometimes it’s “plan, arrange, and wait”,
While other times don’t hesitate.

But when it all can coalesce
Into one point in time, I’m blessed;
Intuitive – the picture’s grabbed,
And “this or that” is what’s been had –

For mostly I don’t think, I shoot
From in some bush, or on some roof;
Dyslexic aspect helps me see
The best location I can be –

And after that it’s “There it is –
And there – and there” – gives pix a fizz;
A mix of left-side of my brain
With right – in photographic game.

Thanks Lord for this.
