Now It Was Dark [Module #42] (John 6:1-25)

“Now it was dark”, in Book I read,
“And Jesus”, having solved their need
Of way to feed five thousand men,
Plus wives and kids, “went off” again –

“To pray” and get perspective right;
And then, when He was out of sight,
The twelve took off in fishing boat –
Struck off for home – twelve men afloat.

Now it was dark”, the story reads,
A storm blew up – was hard indeed –
For, “Jesus had not joined them yet” –
Our problem still – best not forget.

It was that way before, at lunch,
When twelve were faced with feeding-crunch;
Christ had not joined them there, as yet,
Like economics – we forget –

To factor Jesus in the mix,
So it is dark – we try to fix
Financial crunch, or darkened storms –
A silly move, the Bible warns.

For it is God’s economy
In which we live – “Hey, Philip, please,
Pray tell, how can we feed this mob?”
“Beats me”, he said. “Well, turn to God.”

But then again, out in their boat,
There was no Jesus, though afloat
They made slow headway on their trip;
Said Jesus, “Peace – give Me a lift”.

Who got the lift? Well, both, I’d say –
Christ got his lift, they saw the way
To deal with headwinds, stormy seas –
“When in a pinch – try out your knees.”

Thanks Lord, for this.
