"Thirds"   [Reflections on Chris Orwig's Book Visual Poetry - Chapter 3:9 ] ( Psalm 42; Acts 1:7-8; Eph. 3:1-13; Hebrews 3:13-15)

The rule of thirds is good to see,
A ratio of planning re:
Proportion of the frame allowed
In photo-pictures – makes one proud –

Of how one colors in the lines
With penta-prism etched, refined,
To help one put the focus here;
To make one’s impact-statement clear.

The mind likes ratios galore,
Like Golden mean we all adore –
’Bout 1.6 to 1 it seems,
Makes us relaxed – ah! Golden mean.

But truths like that are half the pix –
With truth there’s mystery intermixed,
For truth has problems to be solved;
With mystery were more involved –

For faced with birth and death it seems,
More mystery lies in between
Which can’t be solved – more, just enjoyed,
For on such surf we soon are buoyed.

In photos push the envelope
Beyond the rule of thirds, and hope
Your mix of truth and mystery
Conveys the vision you now see.

Sometimes shift back to amateur –
Just point-and-shoot – there’s such allure
In view of life which people see
Without a world cut up in threes.

Thanks Lord for this.
