“The Idea Is To build...” [#20D] (Matt. 7:24-27)

It’s interesting – You’re starting out
To build Your church, and build it stout,
To stand the storms of life ahead,
Both while You’re there and when You’re dead.

For life itself has lots of storms,
Both ’round the world as weather’s norm,
And in our lives as social folks –
Yet deeper still in us as blokes.

What storm it is, it matters not;
Each storm destroys the things we’ve got;
And those we love are crushed indeed;
Some soon, some late – each feels the need –

For something bigger than ourselves,
When storms of life uncover hells
We could not dream could happen here,
While sun shines bright and skies are clear.

“So dig down to the bed rock – reach
For solid rock beneath your feet;
In every aspect of your life,
Dig down to bedrock ’fore the strife.”

And what’s the bedrock He holds out?
His words – but if there’s any doubt
If you’ve shown care or carelessness,
Take “hard” for road, tree, house – no less.

Don’t cut those corners, leave undone
Your deeper work while having fun;
For storms will come, hit fast and hard,
But when it ends you’ve house and yard.
