"The Elements Of Sun And Rain" [#16] (Matt 5:43-48)

Like rain and sunshine on this frozen ground,
Which come to us in springtime, then are found
To help our plants mature to autumn fruit,
Are greetings, prayers, and love, midst our pursuits.

For if we’re shunned to make us smarten up,
We shrivel up – small greetings are the stuff
Of life for all – a wave; small gift; a card,
Are often all it takes to help – not hard.

Prayer, when our hearts shut out small greetings given,
Cannot be stopped, but works in us like leaven
Mixed in a loaf – small bubbles rising up
In unseen ways, makes journey not so rough.

But love – ah love! To work on one’s behalf;
Now there’s the rain which waters up the grass –
Ten billion drops, each one works with the rest;
It can’t be stopped, thus growth within’s addressed.

So, “Be like God, be perfect in these ways –
Pour on the greeting to each one, and say,
“How goes it friend?” “You doing well today?”
If they resist – work for them as you pray.

Perfection? Yes – but in persistence more –
Like sun and rain, through you let greetings pour
To those around, expressions sent from God
Into their lives, which warms and moistens sod.

Thanks Lord, for this.
