First Wild And Woolley Opening Moves" [#8] (Matt.4:12-17;13:54-58; Mk 1:14-15;6:1-6; Luke 4:14-30)

First wild and woolly, hairy days
Of water-wine, while cousin lays
In prison, captured by the King;
And sermon – first Good News You bring –

“I am the Jubilee”, You say,
“In Me’s fulfilled from former day,
This passage from Isaiah’s tome,
Though not believed here in My home.”

From good reports of healing done,
Of miracles, good rep was won –
To brow of hill and edge of cliff,
From which You walked, and they were miffed.

Disciples? One-shot escapades,
In which they glimpsed the road that lay
Ahead for all, if they should go
Along with You, Good News to know.

Then back to their home town they went,
To fishing boats – one more attempt
To make their way as fishermen,
Until the road once more would bend.

So much to take in by the sea;
So much to contemplate, believe;
So much had happened – days and weeks
Since that first day – so bittersweet.

So too for us when You appear
At our front door, or business near;
Life changes rapidly – such whirl
When You engage us in the swirl –

Of life as lived up to that point;
Your promise? to our lives anoint
Not just with what has gone before,
But Spirit-filled, and so much more.

Lord as we cast aside our past,
And enter in a life that lasts
Beyond the here and now, in ways
We cannot see – bless future days.

Thanks, Lord.
