Unpack What’s Given To You [#6] (John3:23-4:3)

“What joy is yours?” (Implicit in this text);
Response in-deed to those who rise up next;
For John, “That joy is mine,” arrests my sight
As I reflect on section, get it right.

For this is where the roads divide for John –
Christ takes his torch back home, and when He’s gone
Back to His home, John’s left with joy that’s his –
The bridegroom’s task – now past, so back to biz –

“Repent, you guys, the Kingdom’s almost here;
I’ve seen it start, the dove’s descent was clear;
He’s on His way, baton now in His hand;
This joy is mine – that much I under-stand.”

“What joy is yours, friend Stu”, I hear you ask,
“As zeitgeist-train moves on, your day is past”.
“This joy is mine – I found the missing piece
That’s needed now, that others find release”.

“What piece is that?” Apostle’s role for now –
They boundary-jump, once in, they find out how
Those people think, the way they are confused,
Then match the Gospel part which can be used –

As key for them to hear the Jubilee
Release at last, which sets their culture free
To thrive without restraint of folks therein –
God with them now, as they new life begin.

These zeitgeist tasks, they overlap today,
As Christ and John worked side-by-side each day,
Until the road split off like Zeitgeist-train
Which took Christ back to Nazareth again.

Some went with Him, but many stayed with John;
So too with us, as others move along;
It matters not, there’s work for each to do –
Our work they’ll need, unpack what’s given to you.
