Trust God Not People [#4] (John 2:23-25)

Why trust yourself to people, friend?
Christ didn’t do it – in the end
Turns out He was correct, in that
They turned on Him, or made like rats –

Which flee a sinking ship, or bite
The hand which feeds them – or delight
In looking after number one –
So trust them and you’ll soon be done.

“Trust God” He said – much better, that –
For God’s reliable; in fact
He’s all that we can count on firm
Within the swirl – which soon we learn.

Then what of man – if we can’t trust
How can we work, if we just thrust
Aside co-workers, kith and kin?
How best should life with man begin?

“With love – agape love – which is,
Work for their welfare through your biz,
Or in your home, community,
Then endless ways to live there’ll be.

“For none can stop you living, man;
Work for their welfare – prayer can
At least be done ’till dying breath –
Love those around from birth to death.”

We’re fickle – we love Santa Claus
Who gives us gifts – we love because
He’s sugar-daddy – ’till it ends,
Then we’re alone – on selves depend.

Submit to one another, then;
Sub(under)-mission; start again
To know, and then assist them win –
Sub-mit – that’s love – now, just begin.
