Dismiss Good Information (Fawcett #14) (Proverbs 22:13; 26:13; 28:1)

“There’s a lion on the street”;
Sure there is, and one we’ll meet
In our nightmares and our dreams,
Phantom troops – not what it seems.

Union army blew it big
When their leader felt the gig
He was facing was a front
To a bigger force – not runt.

Runt was with few supplies,
Barefoot troops before their eyes,
But McClellan in his head
Feared the phantom troops instead.

That’s a trick – hold out the bait,
Let them charge and hesitate,
’Till there’s opening and room
To press on with victory soon.

What if it is not a ruse?
What if victory’s refused?
“Just too good for it to be
True – ignore what front-lines see”.

Lucky break for weaker side!
Ignorance can turn the tide;
Phantoms on the battlefield
Sometimes make the stronger yield.

So with us – unfounded fears
Hold us back, shift to the rear
Locus of our forward march,
Costing us the Victor’s arch.

Check it out; find out for sure;
Knowledge of the scene’s the cure
For unfounded hopelessness;
Cost of forward move’s much less –

Than withholding your reserve
Counter actions to preserve,
When a quick decisive blow
Could prevail – if truth you know.
