Fluidity Of Action (Sun Tzu 5:2) (Psalm 24:7-10; 33:12-22)

Fluidity and action, from the normal, fixed, direct,
More Orthodox, and frontal, to the things they can’t detect –
Unorthodox, irregular, surprise, and those which are
More indirect, extraordinary, off-the-wall, bizarre –

Is what is needed if a force will fight without defeat;
Such operations mix-and-match so they can armies beat;
An infinite assortment as they bear the brunt of war,
Comes into play as they engage in ways not done before.

Dad’s uncle in the First Great War had underlined one text,
The only verse he'd underlined from one year to the next –
“Though He should slay me, yet I’ll put my trust in Him”, it said,
A line from Job – and he survived, much later others read.

Our lives are quiet here at home in Canada these days,
Though soldiers from our nation fight in wars – where each one lays
His life, or hers, upon the line – such words as these are felt
To carry freight for them each day as they address what’s dealt –

To them within requirements of tasks which they perform;
Though distant to our peaceful lives, for them there’s daily storm;
Just like the book of Revelation jumps to life when folks
Are persecuted just like those to whom the author wrote.

So God as “Lord Of Hosts” – the head of armies in the sky,
Seems real to soldiers in the field, and now I see just why –
“Lift up your heads O ancient doors, that mighty God might come,
Into His house on Zion’s Hill – that praises might be sung.”

Such words embody life for us when warfare is our lot;
Indeed it is when we stand back and see what we have got
By way of hassles in our lives – a mix of bad with good;
It’s then we take a second look, and warfare’s understood.
