Our Strong Tower (Sun Tzu 3:3) (Prov.18:10; Jer.16:19-21; Isaiah 25:1-5; 2Cor.10:1-6; Nehemiah 6)

Of all the plans which one can lay,
Besieging cities is the way
To gain the trophy, “Worst of plans”,
Or “Lowest way to conquer lands”.

Keep this attack as a last resort;
No options left; and all reports
Say there is no alternative;
All else has failed success to give.

If unavoidable it sits
Before you, and they strong resist
Your efforts to avoid this way,
A preparation time will pay –

Three months it takes to gather tools;
Three months for engineering rules
To be fulfilled in building ramps –
It pays in desperate circumstance.

Protection gets the troops in range,
And ramps let soldiers then in gauge
Defenders – this will cut your loss,
And let you win with far less cost.

For cities have an energy,
A force which makes attackers flee;
So think before you take one on;
Perhaps it’s best to move along.

Sanballat and his Motley crew,
Watched Nehemiah with a few
Rebuild in their city’s walls, despite
Resistance almost to a fight.

For well they knew Jerusalem
With walls restored, prevented them
From raiding, reigning, making cash,
From Israelites – their day had passed.

So too, for us in present day;
We have a Name which we can say
To us is our high tower – God;
Which seems to others rather odd.

But God provides for our defense;
Protection – like a moving fence,
As we live out each precious day –
He frees us from attacks that way.
