Spring Flood Of Grace

“Teach us to pray”, disciples asked,
“Like cousin John did in the past,
With power and sure effectiveness”
“Okay”, He said, “start out like this –

“It’s done in private, all alone,
At shop, or store, or in your home –
Whenever you get time and space;
It’s good to have a private place.

“For prayer is not for looking good
To other folks – be understood
It’s more a private chat with heaven;
Request for Grace – which is like leaven –

“That’s mixed in dough to puff up bread –
So ask for that, as you are led
Throughout your life each day with Him;
That’s how each day you could begin.

“You bring the dough of unmade bread;
Present your day as you are led;
He’ll add the leaven of His grace,
Raise up new bread for human race.

“So life on Earth’s like life in heaven –
A slice of life graced by his leaven;
Not everything, one slice is fine;
Today’s request is yours – I’ve mine.

“As we pass out folks’ bread today
As we are led – we see a way
Made clear, where all saw before
Was blocking wall and fast-closed-door.

“Prayer works in ways we could not guess;
Unblocks the stream in wilderness
Which nurtures trees, fresh fruit we see;
What feeds our neighbors meets our needs.

“So try to clear away the trash
Which blocks the stream, so when you ask
That God might work within your space,
He’s got some room to pour His grace.

“Like, what the beef your buddy has
With you – what causes him to razz
You to your face; behind you speak;
Clear all that up before you seek –

“The grace of God to flow through you;
Just like the kids in springtime do –
They clear the blockages in snow,
Make way to let melt-water flow.

“Of course, reverse is also true –
Forgive the stupid things they do;
Let go, clear paths that grace might flow;
Then ask God let His blessings flow –

“Not to, but through, your life that day
From streams you’re nourished – that’s the way
One prospers here with righteousness –
Clear trash, then ask God’s grace to bless.”
