Well, Hello Jesus...

“You’d come across to live with us – like, here? Have you gone mad?
Have you not heard we rivals are? Don’t get me wrong – I’m glad
You have decided to come here; I gulp, and catch my breath;
I don’t quite know the work you do, and can’t speak for the rest –

“But there’s a need for what I’ve felt myself since you’ve been ’round;
I see it in the Chamber, down the hall, and I have found
That there’s a gap between the church and life as lived out here,
Not just for us perceiver-types, but all, both far and near.

“So, welcome friend, I’m glad you’ve come, it’s like we’ve made the cut;
You cut before when things looked bad just after cancer struck;
But this is different, you are free to do most anything,
And you chose us in business-life the gift of God to bring.

“I mean salt, light, and leaven from the Jews of long ago,
To flavor up our cultures, bring some light, and let us know
That life can more than crackers be – all flat and crisp and square –
As leaven enters in the loaf gives cultures ‘space’ and ‘air’.

“I must admit I am surprised, I’d not expected this;
It fairly takes my breath away – an unexpected bliss;
But, hey, here let me clear a space – sit down and rest a spell,
It is not much but it’s my space within this slice of hell.”

So I went in, sat down, surprised at impact quite this soon;
I had not yet done anything ’cept walk across a room;
But then I thought, “Christ mentioned ’bout His Father’s house – “I go
Prepare a place; I’ll meet you there – I tell you so you’ll know”.

Well, hello Jesus, int’resting this place where we have met –
Nice people, place, and challenge I’ve encountered here, and yet
I guess You know that as You’ve been around these parts before;
But glad I am to find You here, as I come through the door.
