Three “Kata’s”

Three times the “Kata” word is used,
“According to” it means;
Like sentences Judge passes down –
“That’s how, to me, it seems”.

We do that too, within our minds,
We speak within to self;
We kick ourselves for being fools,
Like when we lose our wealth.

But here Paul shows how we can end
Such self-defeating talk;
He says a choice is ours to make,
As basis of our walk.

“So all the ‘Kata-krima’ stuff
(Self-condemnation chat),
Drops from our ways of thinking when
We make a choice like that”.

That’s where two other “Kata’s” fit,
They’re choices which we make –
To live “according to” the flesh,
Or Spirit – for Christ’s sake.

At base is guidance – where’s the source,
For that directs our walk;
Which one we choose affects our thought,
Stops self-condemning talk.

For God is wiser than our thought,
His ways are far from ours;
To move with Him as He directs,
Inspires, while other sours.

Don’t walk according to the flesh,
As you work out each day;
According to the Spirit walk,
And then you too can say –

There is no “Kata-krima” now,
Self-condemnation’s done;
According to the Spirit now,
I walk – and that’s more fun!

But hey! There is one other word
In Greek, which speaks to this –
“Peri-patousin” (strut around –
To show I can do this).

Yes, you can strut around so folks
Capacity can see;
But Kata-one self-loathing is,
While Kata-two is free!
