“Info Chase”

He said I was a researcher
I chased down anything
That crossed my mind each day I rose
Which caused my heart to sing.

AI can super-search things out
Cuts time here massively –
Two years I spent on language tool;
Two years on leprosy.

Now all that work has shrunken down
To almost nothing more;
So on each subject I’ve checked out
I’ve quickly known the score.

So, info-chasing as a tool
I use to do my work,
Itself has grasped a further part
No need to daily lurk –

At shelves of books or archives drear
To find each micro-bit;
I cross the hall to office now,
And at my keyboard sit

O Holy Spirit I’ve lost track
Of where I’ve been these years;
Time to get back to work again,
And quell my mounting fears.

O Father-God, who needs all this
As I engage online?
For anyone can suss things out,
And quickly answer find.

“Well, not so quick there Stuie-babe,
Remember yesterday,
When Steph and you had a falling out,
And you had less to say.

“You pulled the plug on all that stuff,
And pressed in on your task;
For ‘satisficing’ is where you
Step back and speak, not ask.

“For publishing in online form
Is what you sought to learn;
It took a fraction of the time,
Now you can income earn.

“A teacher-researcher keeps on,
And detail chases down;
Not you – encourager you are,
For which you are renowned.

“You info-chase at rapid pace
To find each missing piece;
And now come back more rapidly,
So trapped-folks get released.

“It’s ‘Jubilee’ type ministry
You bring to body-life;
Your info-chase brings sweet relief
To trapped-folks in the fight –

“Twixt light and dark on this fair earth,
As men-folk once engaged;
But now it’s everyone’s at war
From ignorant to Sage.

“The ‘Word made flesh’, and ‘Wisdom lit’
Need speaking into lives,
Lest folks once more frustrated get,
Resort to guns and knives.

“For ignorance, intelligence,
‘Salvation once one knows’,
Has long been shown in adequate
To keep folks on their toes.

“You do not have to ‘prove’ to folks
The truth in that wee fact,
For all can see that ‘greater power
Through knowledge’ leads attack –

“Of smarter on the lesser lights
On this terrestrial ball;
So ministry-intelligence,
Is not the end of all.

“So, ‘info-chasing’ as your tool,
Has limits – in its place,
It helps you out, more quickly now,
As you engage each case.

“You’ve learned a lot ’bout publishing
Online, in printed form;
Now keeping fresh won’t take too much
In face of coming storm.”

O Father-God, and Jesus Christ,
I so appreciate,
Your stopping me – to find my place
Before it is too late.

“You took some time to get refreshed
In economic scene,
As it affects community
In world of mean and mean.

“Then novels wrote on leprosy,
And bidding fond farewell;
Third culture, Apostolic shtick,
Each had their place as well.”

So are we done, O Spirit-Guide?
Is that what “landing’s” ’bout?

“It’s part, there Stu, and Carol too,
No way that all wraps up;
A flow of info keeps things fresh,
Like ‘overflowing cup’.

“But back of it is broken now;
You can return once more
To daily life on pinwheel’s pin,
As you now know the score.

“Take other tools, see where they’re at
And put them as your ‘set’ –
Updated, sharpened, fit for use,
Which ‘satisfices’, yet –

“It all comes down to ‘Jubilee’,
‘Ka-boom’ that sets folks free –
You place the charge; step back and watch;
As I set people free.”
