“The Value Now?”

As boomers downsize, landfills swell,
And thrift shops bulge, so one can tell
It’s end of the era – things are cheap
Or free on curb-sides of our streets.

What’s value in Los Angeles
As climate change fans on-shore breeze
Into a raging forest fire,
Consuming homes where folks retire?

Ideas on our Internet;
Substantial goods we now reject;
Where’s “value” in this chaos now,
As Trump plays “President” with power?

Ideas of our paper rights
Are quite ephemeral – in fights
For money, power – “Have mine own way,
Lord”, in this ghastly troubled day.

One asked of Luther, if he knew
The end had come, what he might do;
“I’d plant an apple tree for they
Take long to grow – beyond this day”.

So, doom and gloom is chic these days,
But hope shines brightly through this fray;
So, to my bed – I rest, make room
For thoughts of new Jerusalem.

Thanks Holy Spirit for this.
