“Luke Two” [Luke Study Series]
That's Christmas Eve plus one, I guess
One month today, on day of rest
From sundown here, as there; ’bout six
To six PM next day – to fix –Us blokes who wear out like a rag;
Who through these years begin to sag;
Who mess up constantly, I'd say –
So even now get in Your way.Lord Jesus, at your birth, You bring
(As gentle, genteel, Gentiles sing) –
“Salvation”, “joy”, “redemption grand”,
Here to this rocky, barren land.Two old folks spoke of You in ways
Which resonate with us today –
“As light, revealing so much more
Than we had seen of life before”.Then Anna, Prophetess of age,
Approached with insight of a Sage –
Give thanks! For here is born to all,
Redeemer, though this city fall.So Passover was culture Yours;
Each year (but one), it's great allure
Played out its charm from twelve years on,
’Till life on planet Earth was gone.Your life for ours, Passover lamb;
Protection, passage, great “I AM”
The Word made flesh, great wisdom here
Amongst us, making Wisdom clear.First to those sages in the courts;
Then folks back home ’midst tears and jokes;
Apprenticeship in father's shop –
Craft inside out expressing Thought.So, here I am, O Lord, today,
On “final” – six months out, I'd say –
Ahead as you line up this plane
For landing safe – no more a game.“Be being filled”, Apostle Paul
Advised, as we’re of spirit small;
Take “Bread of Heaven”, Your Holy Word;
And “wine poured out”, as we have heard –And feast upon such life today;
Grow up, mature, the Kingdom-way,
Until that day comes rolling ’round
And we, by You, like sheep are found –Out on some hillside, lost and lone,
Far from the sheepfold we called home;
And yet, in You, O Holy One,
Never cut off, pushed out – alone.So vision of that Ancient One –
That out from Zion, life might come,
Descending from that mountaintop
To here, this place – what God hath wrought;Thanks Holy Spirit for this.
