“Kaleb-Two” [Buffet Series]
They're in the forefront fighting now
To make things work – to figure how
To see a brighter, fairer day,
As change disrupts once-stable ways.Thanks, Lord, for folks like Kaleb there,
Who learns his task with counter bare;
Descendent from long lines of clerks,
Who count, record, make money work.Dyslexia helps me to view
Kaleidoscopic scenes anew;
To photograph with feeling-tracks
Cerebral scenes, mixed front and back –From every side, above, below,
From inside out – then seeds we sow
With mind's awareness of a world
More complex for its ceaseless whirl.But You made peace on pinwheel's pin
Despite kaleidoscopic spin;
That is our world within, without,
There’s peace at center-point – no doubt.So what of Kaleb's namesake guy?
For Moses, right-hand man, a spy
Who, glass half-empty, said, “Let's go!
A bright new future we can know”.But others stopped, resisted them;
Then said, “Okay” – too late, by then
God had adjusted plans ahead –
Said, “20 years and more? You're dead!”So 40 years they wandered ’round
With God against them – wilder-ground
Than they would in the future know
(For Josh and Caleb, blessings flowed).So Lord, this is upcoming week
When forty years of life quite bleak
Will end for me, since “heave-ho” day
We'll pack our bags, be on our way.So, Holy Spirit, burning bright
As fiery pillar in our night,
And cloud by day, we journey forth –
Cross-cultured kids from frozen North.Thanks Holy Spirit for this.
