“Liable To Sin Offering” (Reflections on Bab. Talmud:Rodkinson – Shabbat tract, chapter 1)

This term seems quaint to modern ears
Misunderstood no doubt, but veers
Into our conscious minds, when viewed
As way one’s fractious life’s renewed.

Restored to self, community,
With God, and larger unity;
Essential on those desert sands;
Or seen today in modern lands –

When snow piles high, or torrents flow
Tsunamically – or earthquakes’ toll
Is catastrophic – life and death
Come to the fore, and we’re bereft.

We have a comfort layer now –
Paved streets, and wells, which can allow
A semblance of “Above all that”,
’Till mother nature lays us flat.

Pretense is fine, but don’t believe
Illusion’s base for deepest needs;
The Talmud’s words, reflections, thoughts,
Address our lives in precepts taught.

So, Holy Spirit, on our knees,
We seek Your guidance; lay our pleas
For justice, mercy, life renewed,
Like now, as troubled-times are viewed.

Grace us with insights from this tome,
As through the ages in each home
Where it’s reflected on each day –
That guidance, health, might find its way.

Thanks Holy Spirit for this.
